A List of some of my favorite artists
The links all lead to the iTunes Store or Amazon MP3 (and these are affiliate links), where you can listen to the tracks, and buy downloads. I know that’s not all, and I want YOU to fill me in on good acts that are missing here. Just leave a comment naming the musicians here.
The Explorers Club
They really capture the mid to late 1960s Beach Boys sound very well. Their album Freedom Wind is available as CD
Ingfried Hoffmann
German Jazz organist (Hammond B3) who played with the greats (Klaus Doldinger f.e.) and later recorded music for TV. Very special style.
Hal Blaine (drummer)
LA based drummer who played on countless pop hits from the 60s and 70s. He belonged to the wrecking crew, a group of session musicians that was favored by producers like Phil Spector, Jan Berry and Brian Wilson. He has a trademark, very active style.
Incredible Bongo Band
They recorded a very groovy version of Apache, that is totally different form both, The Shadows and the Jorgen Ingman versions.
Oscar Peterson
Real Jazz I guess. But I like it. Oddly it also works for people who otherwise don’t dig real Jazz. My uneducated opinion is that he was the greatest Jazz pianist that ever lived.
Enoch Light
Producer and label owner of Command and two other great labels from the 50s and 60s. Known for show-off big band-with-percussion hi-fi-recordings that sound better than than life!
Percy Faith
Easy Listening at it’s best. He got groovier each year. You have heard Theme from a Summer Place, well, he didn’t stop there…
Frank Pourcel
More of that big, string-heavy Easy sound. He had a knack for western stuff, but was versatile also. Vivid grandeur.
