The Surfer on the Cover of the 2nd Beach Boys Album Died

I read it here, at the blog of the San Onofre Surfing Club. His name was Les Williams. I never knew who was the surfer on the Beach Boys Surfin’ USA album cover, but it’s a great shot with style on a considerably sized wave. A big wave. The album is among my favorite Beach Boys albums, and even pure instrumental Surf fans should know it.

Pacific Longboarder

Pacific Ocean Park

The first ime I was introduced to Pacific Ocean Park was on a Surfer’s Mood surf comp in the early 90s, through two tracks from a promo 45 that were included by the Restless Surfer.
So now I found this video at YouTube about it. Thereabouts must have been the later Dogtown, where Tony Alva and fellow skaters developed their new skating styles in the seventies.

Watch the Pacific Ocean Park video here.

Van Hamersveld

Endless Summer by Hamersveld

The graphicdesigner who designed the timeless Endless Summer poster for the Bruce Brown movie from 1965.
Here are more 60s works by him.

Legendary Surfers

Now I discovered this project (book and website) a couple of years back and just realized they changed the website to a blog, which is reason enough to try and make you aware of Legendary Surfers.

Very thorough reading, from various knowledgable people. Just reading the free articles will keep busy and well informed about the history of surfing. I guess a complete historical overview is obtained through buying the book or the PDF-files.
